Having a small business is the dream of many. You can be your own boss, and be in control of your financial future. And more people every day are realizing success with their small businesses, thanks to internet providers and the tools they provide, such as social networking.

If you are on a very tight budget starting up your business, you may assume you need to use dial up or a no name DSL provider. This is not true. Searching for DSL providers by zip code will allow you to compare speeds and packages available in your area.

You may be quite surprised to discover that DSL providers like Verizon and Att may be even less expensive than a company you were going to use that no one has ever heard of. Doesn't it make sense to put your business in the hands of an established provider?

The type of your small business will play a role in how important the internet is to you. You might use it to send and receive shipments, keep employee or delivery schedules or promote your business online with social media sites or your own web presence.

If you have unreliable internet service, you could lose out on sales. Not to mention, if you have a live chat option, getting disconnected is not something you even want to think about. For this reason, you may also want to consider cable internet providers.

You may find that all your business needs is a DSL connection. But you may want to consider a more reliable internet type if you run your business largely online, such as cable. While you may think it's more expensive, you may not find this to be true once you've done some research.

Shopping for cable internet providers by zip code means that you can more easily compare their services. These days, most ISPs offer bundling options which allow you to have phone and internet service under one company in addition to TV. So a business that needs all three can save money by going for this option.

If you have or are planning to start a small business, you need internet service, even if it is for marketing purposes. The thousands of dollars you may have spent years ago on magazine, newspaper and radio ads has now been replaced by a free Facebook page and the help of internet service.
