A wonderful idea for a baby shower is to give the child a handmade baby quilt. This is a great gift since it is fairly easy to make and the baby will enjoy it for many years. He or she may even use it for their own babies in the distant future. A gift created with love is always a good choice.

Blankets are always good, useful gifts, but chances are, there will be others who give them at the shower. To ensure that yours is the one that will be used over and over again, pick a quilting design that works for both baby and adult. Sewing something that matches the nursery theme or color that the parents have selected will make it more likely that your quilt will see plenty of use.

The design will be the most important part of the project. You can look online or at books to get some ideas for the squares. It is usually best to select something that suits your sewing level. If you are new to sewing, then stick to simpler options like basic blocks or strip quilting.

If you have a bit more experience with sewing, you can tackle a more advanced design. There are plenty of options in piecing that can turn a difficult design into one that is easier to execute. For example, paper piecing can make quilting much simpler.

The cloth that you choose for the project is a big part of the design. Even a simple block design can look completely different, depending on the type of fabric used. You will find a number of beautiful fabrics with designs for nurseries. If you wish, you can look for fabric that compliments the nursery theme or color. It is fine to pick something for its cuteness, as well, though, regardless of whether or not it matches.

Another idea is to take keepsake clothing and create a very special memento with them. For example, t-shirts from schools the parents attended or baby clothes that the parents used can be excellent pieces of a cute bed cover. This makes a keepsake that should be able to last for generations. It is the best way to provide something truly memorable for the family and the child.

Kits make it very simple to sew up a nice little gift. They come with everything you need, usually already cut out. There is no stress about cutting each piece perfectly, since it is done for you. Instead, you merely need to sew everything together. There are many different designs available so you can find one that works for the child you plan to give it to.

Some people simply cannot sew at all and for these folks, it is possible to purchase a handmade baby quilt to gift. While it does not have the same touch as if you made it yourself, it is still something very special. You will find that premade blankets range from simplistic to very complicated, so even if you do have the skills, but not the time, you can buy one that is better than you might make on your own.
